Thank you so much for giving of yourself to serve God and others. What you are doing is at the heart of what it means to be God’s community. This is the place where we get to give and receive love up close, ask and thank God for His amazing work, and serve together in the joy of knowing that it is God Himself that we love. His promise is in Hebrews 6:10: “God is not unjust; he will not forget your work and the love you have shown him as you have helped his people.”
Our purpose is to come together as God’s community. We see it throughout the New Testament. It’s messy, it’s real, but when it’s Spirit led, it brings glory to God and helps others see Christ in us.
In Acts 2:42: They devoted themselves…
to the apostles teaching (now Scripture),
to fellowship (oneness, extreme love, sharing everything, caring for one another’s needs), to the breaking of bread (having meals together), and
to prayer (I believe these were kingdom prayers).
God has you in a place of shepherding His people. So pray, believe, and trust Him to lead you. Model what it means to love radically, connect deeply, share intimately, and give your life away. God has given you everything you need. So trust the Spirit to help you be His shepherd.
For week one: Focus on encouraging people to (1) share their stories of coming to faith, (2) discuss what it means to be in a community group, and (3) talk about how we can help one another grow in faith and fruit.
Grace and peace to you,
